About
Lisa Martin, CPSM, C.P.M is Senior Vice President, Global Procurement and Chief Procurement Officer for GSK, a global biopharma company with the ambition and purpose to unite science, technology, and talent to get ahead of disease together.
In this role since 2017, Lisa took her vision of transforming the function with an enterprise operating model to make it a reality and is the first CPO to lead global procurement across all business segments. Lisa has been championing industry collaboration and supporting suppliers on the journey to net zero impact on climate and net positive impact on nature with her leading presence at COP26 and New York Climate Week 2022, where GSK revealed ground breaking initiatives such as Energize and Activate, offering practical support to accelerate decarbonisation initiatives for suppliers.
She led the Future Ready transformation and separation activities across procurement in preparation for GSK to split into two new companies. She also led the successful integration of Tesaro (an oncology focused biopharmaceutical company) and Pfizer Consumer Healthcare procurement activities to drive business efficiencies and synergies.
She leads the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and procurement activities on all externally purchased goods and services categories, including research and development, raw materials, packaging, manufacturing services, marketing and sales. This totals over £11.4 billion per year. She drives material business advantage and value, improving savings, cash flow as well as strategies to minimise separation costs.
Lisa is also responsible for Workplace, Real Estate and Facilities for GSK. The group is responsible for Real Estate activities across all of GSK’s 275 sites (37m square feet), and manage facilities services for 139 properties, across 59 countries comprising 6.2 million square feet and a budget of over £300 million.
Under Lisa’s leadership, GSK contributes to The Sustainable Procurement Pledge, with Lisa sitting in the CPO League of Champions, working together with other CPOs to shape the future of procurement leadership and embedding sustainability practices in Procurement through collaboration with peers and access to best-practice knowledge.
Before joining GSK, Lisa was CPO of Teva Pharmaceuticals where she was responsible for the transformation of the Procurement function, delivering $1bn in savings two years ahead of the original strategic plan. Previously, Lisa spent eleven years of her career at Pfizer in a number of senior roles including Senior Vice President, Global Procurement and Operations. Lisa has also held roles at Warner Lambert, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Columbia Pictures Entertainment and NBC.
As part of Lisa’s personal brand, she has been at the forefront of accelerating the implementation of inclusion and diversity strategies, sponsoring Employee Resource Groups, leading diverse recruitment efforts, driving quantifiable and impactful increased spending with diverse suppliers and partnering with advocacy organisations.
This includes partnering with the National Minority Supplier Development Council since her time at Sony, fostering women and minority owned supplier opportunities and member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She has supported The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and during her Pfizer tenure repeatedly earning recognition from WBENC as one of “America’s Top Corporations for Women Business Enterprises”. At Pfizer Lisa was a catalyst for the creation of Titanium, a certified-diverse owned alliance of marketing suppliers. At GSK, her commitment to I&D has led to three consecutive awards for “Best of the Best” from the NGLCC. She also supports the Diversity Alliance for Science and Disability:IN.
In 2013, Lisa was awarded the prestigious J. Shipman Gold Medal Award, which is awarded annually to an individual who has performed distinguished service for the cause and advancement of the supply management profession.
Lisa is Chairperson Emeritus of the Institute for Supply Management. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in communications and psychology from Long Island University C.W. Post College, New York. She resides in New Jersey with her husband and two adult children who are also procurement professionals.
