Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) mourns the passing of Roald David “Dave” Nelson, a past President and Chair of the Board of the then-National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM). He died on March 2, at the age of 87.

Nelson leaves behind a profound legacy in the field of supply management, having shaped the careers of many distinguished leaders and contributed extensively to the profession. His career spanned five decades in the automotive agricultural equipment industry, where he held leadership roles at such companies as TRW Automotive, Honda and John Deere.

A recognized expert in purchasing and supply chain management, he authored three books and was an active member of the Purchasing Roundtable. After his tenure as NAPM President and Chair, Nelson remained engaged with the organization after it became ISM in 2002, acting as a special adviser to the Board of Directors.
