Timely, Relevant, All-Encompassing: CPSM® Version 4 Is Out Soon
Thinking of getting Institute for Supply Management®’s (ISM®) Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) certification? Version 4, refreshed with updated topic areas that expand on the already extensive material — is due for release in September.
And for a limited time, the new version is available as a pilot program at a discount.
With disruptions like geopolitics, tariffs and AI constantly impacting supply chains, the update is opportune, says Emily Ryan, Program Manager — Certifications at ISM. “It isn’t a major shift,” she says. “But there are areas we expanded on.”
CPSM Exams cover three areas: supply management core or fundamental skills, supply management integration, and supply management leadership. The CPSM Pilot offers early access to ISM’s fully updated certification exams and digital study materials. It is limited to the first 300 supply chain professionals who register.
Among the new features:
- Expanded material on risk mitigation and market intelligence in the supply management core exam
- More on supplier qualifications, assessment metrics, stakeholder engagement and project planning management
- A new section on sales and operation planning specific to inventory management.
The CPSM Pilot cost is US$359 for ISM members and $439 for non-members. You’ll save about 80 percent or more. With that price comes a shorter than normal timeframe: After receiving the updated digital study materials, participants will take the refreshed exams during the June-July pilot window.
“Yes, it's fast,” says Ryan, who adds that exam retakes, if needed, also will be discounted. The deadline for retakes is December 20.
If you’re already underway with Version 3 of the CPSM exam, continue. If you haven’t taken all the exams by the time Version 4 is rolled out, you will be able to submit a combination of third- and fourth-edition exam scores to qualify for certification.
“ISM’s CPSM remains the certification that is most all-encompassing,” Ryan says.
“The CPSM certification signals to employers that you have demonstrated both knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge across critical areas of supply chain.”
CPSM Exams and study materials, including Version 4, incorporate input from practitioners and subject matter experts worldwide and across industries to ensure the credential reflects current business practices and evolving supply chain responsibilities.
